Few people realize that even stars have problems with their jaws and seek advice for treatment. Here is an excerpt from Raquel’s book “Beyond the Cleavage” where she pays tribute to Dr Harold Gelb for his influence that he has had in her life. It is interesting that it not only cured her headaches and facial pains but also had the effect of rejuvenating her face by supporting her lower jaw. My before and after photo’s of TMJ patients consistently show better skin color and a more youthful appearance to the faces of these patients. I believe it is due to not only a better balanced face but also an improved airway. I thought it was interesting and wanted to share this with you for those of you who were fans of “One Million Years B.C.”
Years ago, I was suffering from migraine-like headaches and visiting a chiropractor, sometimes twice a day…So I went to see Harold Gelb, D.M. D., the pioneer innovator in the field of TMJ treatment. The cause for my discomfort, Gelb said, was my habit of clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth when under stress… After taking impressions of my bite, Gelb fitted me for a jaw splint… Within Forty-eight hours my pain was relieved… Over time I became aware of the anti-aging side effects of this device. By supporting my jaw and keeping it in balance, my splint was also keeping the whole bottom half of my face supported…to prevent the skin from drooping. I told Dr. Gelb about this, and he was not surprised. He told me that way back in 1965 he had been interviewed by Vogue: about using this type of splint. The article was called “New De-wrinkle,” and it described the use of the splint as the “world’s latest face-lift…”
